Notebook component makers slow down pace of relocating China facilities

Some component makers in the ODM notebook supply chains have apparently slowed down their moves for relocation of their production bases to Chongqing or Chengdu in western China on concerns of profitability, according to industry sources.

For notebook ODMs, the relocation of production lines to western China will mean an AS10B73 battery increase of US$4-5 in unit cost or a loss of 1pp in gross margin, which is AS10B75 battery closing to a level of only 3-4% on average, indicated the sources.

Lawsuit lowdown

Always Moving

But simply assuming that Apple will stick with a bulky optical drive configuration for posterity’s sake when it has aggressively pushed toward flash and cloud-based storage in every other facet of its business would be an unwise bet. New rumor adds to 15-inch MacBook Air chatter

Apple's thinnest notebooks are once again said to be getting a size upgrade, at least in the screen department. A new VGP-BPL6 rumor adds to talk of a 15-inch model in the works.

Apple is once again said to be on the brink of releasing a larger version of its thinnest notebook computer.

Adding to the chatter of new dell j70w7 sizes for the MacBook Air, Electric Pig weighed in today, saying Apple has a 15-inch version due next month.
